Welcome to the Additional Learning Needs, Inclusion and Achievement Team page.
At Roath Park Primary, we work hard to ensure that all children feel happy, successful and safe in school. The I&A team work together to provide children with some additional support and interventions to help develop their learning, communication, behaviour or emotional skills. We work to allow all pupils the opportunity to achieve their personal potential, feel confident in their own ability and nurture a love of learning.
Our team consists of 17 members of staff that support pupils, both within the classroom and through planned support sessions in other areas like the Learning Loft, the Inclusion room and the Bubble Room.
If you are concerned about your child and the progress he/she is making then please speak to their class teacher or Mrs Rigby, our Additional Learning Needs Co-ordinator.

How can I help my child?
- Read with your child as much as possible at home. Your child's teacher can advise on books for you to enjoy.
- Speak to your child's class teacher about their topic and spend time with your child researching the topic and talking about what they are learning in class. Ask them to show you their work on Seesaw or Google Classroom and talk about what they have done.
- Sit with your child to complete any work or projects to be completed at home.
Additional Learning Needs (ALN)
Most children and young people will make good progress and will not have Additional Learning Needs (ALN) or require Additional Learning Provision (ALP). The individual needs of these children and young people will be met within what we do in school for all children (universal provision). Universal provision that enables pupils to make progress includes high quality and effective teaching, good differentiation, use of visual resources to support learning, individual catch-up interventions and reasonable adjustments to the curriculum to enable each child to access it.
A child can be identified as having an Additional Learning Need (ALN) when they are not able to make progress in their learning with universal provision alone, and require more specific and tailored support, which is additional to what we provide for all other children as part of our universal provision. This may include specialist programmes of work that need to be delivered in addition to the curriculum delivered in class, or specialist equipment for example.
When it comes to deciding if a child or young person has an Additional Learning Need (ALN), lots of different information is to be considered. The diagram below shows the process of identifying ALN.
What is a Person Centred Meeting?
A Person Centred Meeting is a meeting that is held with all of the people who play an important role in a child or young person's life, where appropriate, including the child. The purpose of a Person Centred Meeting is to gather information about the child, with the child at the centre, to find out what is important to and for the child.
